Research

My work is underpinned by academic-level research and an unwavering commitment to Historical Integrity. This means that all primary and secondary source material is critically examined for authenticity and factual accuracy.

Consumers of Public History have a fair expectation that historians are presenting them with factual and accurate information, and I strongly believe that the provision of such material should be a fundamental aim of all producers of Public History. This basic ethos informs all my work.

In addition to research for the books, articles, stories, talks and tours listed on this website, I have also completed consultancy research work on various other projects, including:

Extensive oral history research for the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble verbatim theatre production of ‘Bogga’, 2017.

Guest historian on the SBS TV series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?‘, 2022.

Employed as a research and data officer on Ipswich City Council’s ‘Ipswich Historic Cemeteries Project’, and subsequently as part of the Picture Ipswich team, 2012.

Consultancy work for the Brisbane City Council/Boggo Road Gaol Historical Society project ‘Executed Prisoners Plaque‘, 2005.

Contributor, ‘Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Report’, Dr Ray Kerkhove for Everick Consultancy, 2019.

The ‘Daughters of the Floating Brothel‘ Radio Drama project by Sarah Woodland, 2014.
